Superintendent's Weekly Memo - September 6, 2024
Dear Mustang Families,
Our school community is officially all together again. Our Medford Early Education Program (MEEP) began on Tuesday of this week, and Kindergarten students joined our hallways the following day. It is a continual delight to see all of these new faces in our schools.
Mustang Nation has had a terrific start to the fall High School athletics season. Yesterday, our boys and girls varsity and junior varsity soccer teams won their opening matches of the year. We have also seen season openers for our boys and girls cross country teams and our boys golf team.
Next week, our football team will play their first home game of the year at Hormel Stadium! Show your Medford pride while cheering on our players, cheerleaders, band students, color guard and all of Mustang nation. The game kicks off Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.
Special Remembrances
My heart broke this week hearing the news about the tragedy that took place at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. The news of this horror is both distressing and unsettling, and our thoughts and prayers are with the students, families and staff affected by this senseless act of violence.
The safety of all of our students and staff is our number one priority at Medford Public Schools. We will continue to inform and engage with our teachers and school staff about our safety protocols throughout the year. If your child needs support in school in the coming days, please contact your school-based counseling team.
Next Wednesday, September 11, marks the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It is a very sad day for many of us with ties to the Northeast, and it is a solemn reminder that things can change unexpectedly. We will never forget the over 3,000 individuals who passed away as a result of this tragedy. May all their souls continue to rest in peace. Thank you to our firefighters, police, and first responders for continuously keeping our community safe.
Today’s Memo includes:

School Curriculum Nights Begin Next Week
Next week marks the start of our school curriculum nights! Curriculum nights serve as a wonderful opportunity for parents and caregivers to meet teachers and school leaders. Attending families will learn more about classroom expectations, proper communication channels and the material your child will be studying throughout the year.
Each participating school will be hosting their curriculum night throughout the next two weeks, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 10. Please visit the website of your child’s school for event start times and further information.
MPS Receives School Supply Donation From Members Plus Credit Union
Earlier this week, Medford Public Schools was thankful to receive a donation of 50 backpacks full of school supplies from the Members Plus Credit Union! Thank you to the MPCU for their generosity shown towards our schools and to Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn for joining me in this warm act of kindness shown in our community. These donated backpacks and school supplies will make a tremendous impact on our students and families.
