Superintendent's Weekly Memo - November 1, 2024
Dear Mustang Families,
I hope all those who celebrated enjoyed a fun and safe Halloween yesterday. I noticed that there were so many original and unique costumes from students, staff, and caregivers throughout the season, including the SuperHeroes of the High School S House. I sincerely commend everyone’s creativity!
As we look ahead towards the weekend, we’ll be undergoing the annual occurance of setting the clocks back. Daylight savings time is coming to an end; therefore, your clocks need to “fall back” one hour at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, Nov. 3. Enjoy the one hour of extra sleep, Mustang Nation!
Medford City Elections are on Tuesday, and all schools will be closed to students. Visit Here for sample ballots, details on where to vote on Election Day and other voting information. If you have questions, please contact the Medford Elections Commission at elections@medford-ma.gov or 781-393-2491.
Although school will be closed to students next Tuesday, our staff throughout the district will be collaborating through district-wide Professional Development. Staff had the opportunity to choose from a variety of engaging sessions to further strengthen their skills. Our Medford staff members continue to expand their academic knowledge and professional abilities to enhance the educational journey of your child.

Krystle Campbell Memorial Garden Ceremony to be Held Tuesday, Nov. 12
Medford Public Schools (MPS) and the Center for Citizenship and Social Responsibility (CCSR) program will be hosting a dedication ceremony for the new Krystle Campbell Memorial Garden on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 3:00 p.m. at the front entrance of Medford High School.
The new garden will honor Campbell, a 2001 Medford High School graduate who tragically passed away during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The memorial garden will celebrate her life and passion for bringing people together.
Visit Here for more information about the ceremony.
Medford Students Continue To Shine Across Sports & Arts
Congratulations to Senior Brianna Cerullo for becoming the first female in Mustang Football history to score in a varsity football game! Brianna, who is just the second female to participate in football at the varsity level in school history, scored on a two-point conversion during our 38-6 win over Chelsea. Quarterback Justin Marino scored five touchdowns in the victory and was recently profiled in the Boston Herald as part of his stellar senior season.
I’d also like to commend our Medford Rowing Team on a superb fall season that culminated at the MPSRA Fall Championships. Our crew team won two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. They also won the State Team Sculling Trophy for the first time in school history!
Lastly, I want to wish our Medford Marching Band good luck this weekend ahead of the NESBA Fall Finals. Our band has been terrific throughout the school year. They’ve been routinely winning Best General Effect and Best Visual awards, all while competing against much larger schools with bigger bands. We are so proud of their hard work and look forward to seeing them perform!
Winter Preparedness Event to be Held on November 14
While we have experienced abnormally warm weather so far this autumn, the colder temperatures will arrive before we know it. In preparation for the annual chilly takeover of New England, the City of Medford will once again be hosting their annual Winter Preparedness Event on Thursday, Nov. 14 at Medford City Hall.
Attendees will have the opportunity to collect winter clothes (while supplies last), enjoy free food, and gain access to winter resources such as information on heating assistance. There will also be a free Covid and flu vaccination clinic at the event.
