Superintendent's Weekly Memo - December 20, 2024

Superintendent's Weekly Memo - December 20, 2024
Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent, Superintendent

Dear Mustang Families,

We have made it to the end of December. Our students and staff members have worked so hard thus far, and what I love most about this time of year is how much it brings people together. It has been such a delight to see our schools engage in holiday activities these past few days, which you can read more about below.

As we look ahead to Winter Break, the upcoming time off allows us all a welcome opportunity to spend quality moments with our families and friends. When celebrating the richness of this festive season, may the Winter Solstice/ Yule, the warmth of Christmas, the light of Hanukkah, the unity of Kwanzaa, and all our respective holidays bring you and those close to you happiness and love.

Today was a half-day for students and educators across Medford Public Schools to begin the holiday vacation. Medford Public Schools will be closed for all students and teachers beginning on Monday, December 23, and will reopen on Thursday, January 2.

Enjoy your Holiday Mustang Nation! Have a terrific New Year!

Today’s Memo includes:

  • Schools Celebrate Holiday Season
  • Kindergarten Registration To Open January 2
  • Job Openings
  • Upcoming Events

Schools Celebrate Holiday Season

Our school community has continued their theme of unity and togetherness during this festive season, promoting the Mustang Way of respecting and celebrating each other. The recognition began at Monday night’s School Committee meeting where we honored our Greater Boston League champions, fall sports MVP’s and our back-to-back champions the Mustang Marching Band! Attendees were also treated to a delightful performance by our String Orchestra and Middle School String Ensemble. Visit Here to see the scenes from Monday night.

Many of our schools also celebrated holiday-themed spirit weeks and school traditions. Students at the McGlynn Elementary performed in their winter concert before getting a surprise visit into their classrooms from the Grinch! Third Grade teachers at the Brooks were terrific hosts for the school’s Winter Olympics on Thursday, while students at the Andrews also enjoyed participating in their annual Skate Day amongst other traditions happening across our schools.

The week before the Winter Break is always eagerly anticipated amongst our school community, and these annual traditions and celebrations are a large reason why!

Kindergarten Registration to Open January 2

Upon returning from break, Kindergarten registration will open on Thursday, January 2! Students who turn 5 years old before September 1 are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten for the 2025-26 school year. Kindergarten registration must be completed at the Registration Office located at Medford High School. Visit Here to learn more.
